The Nexen Tire Company was established in 1942 in Korea under the name Heung-A Tire Company. Nexen Tire was recognized as the first Korean tire company in 1956. Nexen Tire began focusing on radial tires and formed an alliance with OHTSU Tire & Rubber to further develop production capabilities in 1985.

Over 60 years later, Nexen Tire continues to grow, opening a second manufacturing plant in 2003 to begin producing performance tires, and a third manufacturing plant in China in 2007 to meet product demand.
